Fusion Optix | Woburn, Massachusetts
Curious about light? Help us turn it into something extraordinary.
Fusion Optix is looking for a bright, outgoing optical engineer who loves understanding how things work—and finding ways to make them better.
This is a hands-on role combining optical product development, applications engineering and testing. You’ll work directly with customers and colleagues across the 3LED Group, helping turn ideas into practical products for architectural lighting, industrial systems, machine vision, horticulture, wellness and other emerging applications.
We’re looking for someone who brings technical talent, natural curiosity and the confidence to engage with people. Someone who asks thoughtful questions, enjoys experimenting and gets excited about seeing their work become a real product.
What you’ll do:
- Develop optical products: Help design and improve lenses, TIR optics, diffusers, light guides and optical assemblies for LED-based systems.
- Solve customer challenges: Understand application requirements, recommend solutions and support customers from initial concept through evaluation and implementation.
- Support our internal brands: Collaborate with engineering, sales and product teams across Fusion Optix and the wider 3LED Group.
- Build, test and learn: Develop prototypes, design experiments and measure optical performance, including beam distribution, efficiency, uniformity, color and spectral characteristics.
- Connect simulation with reality: Use optical modeling and laboratory measurements to evaluate designs, investigate problems and guide improvements.
- Bring products to market: Contribute to specifications, application notes, test reports and clear technical documentation.
- Explore new opportunities: Investigate technologies and applications where our optics, LED engines and lighting expertise can make a meaningful difference.
What you’ll bring:
- A degree in optical engineering, physics, photonics, electrical engineering or a related field.
- A strong foundation in optics and an interest in LEDs, illumination and practical product development.
- Hands-on experience through industry, research, internships or substantial technical projects.
- An analytical approach to experiments, measurements and problem-solving.
- Clear communication skills and an enthusiasm for working with customers and colleagues.
- Initiative, attention to detail and the ability to move an open-ended technical question toward a useful answer.
- Experience with optical design software such as LightTools, Zemax OpticStudio, TracePro or equivalent tools is valuable. Familiarity with CAD, photometric testing, spectroscopy, Python or MATLAB is also welcome. You don’t need experience in every area—we care about your fundamentals, curiosity and ability to learn.
Why join Fusion Optix?
You’ll work close to the products, the customers and the decisions. Your ideas will have a visible impact, and your work will span multiple technologies, brands and industries. One project might involve shaping a precise beam for an industrial application; another might explore light distribution for an architectural fixture or a new spectral lighting system. The common thread is thoughtful engineering, practical experimentation and a team that cares about what light can do.
We welcome promising early-career engineers and experienced candidates who are excited by the breadth of the role. Show us what sparks your curiosity. Send your résumé and a short introduction describing a project, experiment or technical problem you enjoyed tackling. Tell us what you explored, what you learned and why it interested you.
